Mabel Beatrice Prince
« on: Thursday 04 November 10 20:53 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone has come across my Grandmother Mabel Beatrice Prince in the 1901 Census?  I have tried searching, but can find no trace.  She was born on 2nd October 1884 at 1 Arboretum Square, Derby.  Thanks, Stephen.

Hi Emma

I have found her in 1891 at Arboretum Square.

By 1911 she was married to my grandfather James Robert Rowbotham and living in Altrincham, Cheshire.  I haven't looked at the 1911 Census yet.

However, 1901 is a problem.  She wasn't living with her mother Eva then.  I doubt that she was living with her father Alfred Prince (who may not have been alive).  Her siblings were Jessie, Winifred, Elsie and Alfred.

Thanks for helping.

Stephen

Stephen, do you have an address where they were living in Altrincham? I have a lot of details of Prince's originating in Derbyshire and links to Altrincham although I cannot find any matches to what you have given.

An address may help.

Hi Glenn,

The Rowbotham family were living at 20 Manor Road in 1901 and at the time of the marriage in 1910, James Robert was living at 18 Manor Road.  By the time of my mother's birth, James Robert and Mabel Beatrice had moved to 28 Poplar Avenue and eventually to 62 The Downs.

I would be interested to know which members of the Prince family you are tracing.

Good luck.

Hi Emma,

My goodness you have been busy!  You have indeed found one of my grandmother's sisters Elsie, with her own grandmother.  You enquired about my grandmother's mother, Eva Prince.  I have found her in Alfreton in 1901 where she was a housekeeper.  However none of her children were in the household.

I am impressed that you have found my grandmother's brother Alfred with his uncle Frederick Sutton Shute. Thanks for that.

I understand that the family split up in 1898 and no one knows what became of Alfred Prince, my great grandfather.

Hi Stephen,

I have 2 Alfreds in my list. One born about 1887 and the other 1873 so it looks like it is a different family.

My lot mostly came from Stantion-in-Peak and Youlgreave and the furtherest back we have is Henry Prince born c1862, in Stanton.

Someone has this info on a website, I will try find the address and you can have a look if it is relevant to you.

Regards
Glenn
