Suprising the number of establishments in that area tha had a female "Lodging House Keeper" with 3 or 4 young women of "Independent means"

Yes, I note a George RUSSELL in one of them.  He was the one with the "visiting dressmakers" in 1851.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

I have a feeling one of my long distant rellies had a sister who was a charwoman and dressmaker dependant on her mood. She and the rest of the family lived in St Martins for many yaers and would have been there or thereabouts from 1841-1871  :-[

Not still in touch with them are you Glen?  ;D

No seriously Me thinks the only way to progress from here is to go back to the poor quality microfilm at Lincoln library and persevere. The Inquest made the London papers so surely there should be plenty in the Lincoln rags plus the subsequent trial.

I have today sent for a LFHS publication which lists transcriptions from the Lincoln Rutland and Stamford Mercury of Inquests from 1844 to 1851. Evidently the name Clarke is in this publication together with the name Ball who stood trial for Clarkes sudden death.

I'll keep you posted  8)

I've just been reminded of this thread and having a quick look on the newspaper archive site,

there is an article which I haven't read but found on a quick search, Friday 02 January 1846 ,  Lincolnshire Chronicle and a further one which may also connect to the story on Friday 13 March 1846 ,  Lincolnshire Chronicle
