Clay family of Colchester
« on: Monday 08 November 10 18:05 GMT (UK) »
I have researched the family back to 1684 but can't get any further back. Samuel Clay was a baker but he bought a marriage licence and a free burgess of Colchester so he was quite well off. Maybe he was left the money in a will or it came from his wife, Hannah Webb. Anyone help?

He married Hannah Webb in 1684 in St James Colchester. There were lots of later Samuels and Edwards and Johns who were all farmers and became mayors

Thanks Cobbs. These are the wills of my Samuel who was married in 1684 and his son Samuel. There is no indication of where they might have been born or where they were buried.

Thanks for all the info given. Unfortunately I know all of this. It is really only his place and date of birth I want. Married 1684 so must have been born about 1660 but where?
