Weeks
« on: Tuesday 09 November 10 00:01 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for some help in researching a side of my family that is, as far as we know unfounded. I know there was a Vera Annie Weeks born around the quarter July/Aug/Sep 1907 in the Poole district. I am assuming I have the correct person here as new to all this. I know she had 4 siblings , not sure what ages but should all be on a 1911 census living in the Poole area. Possibility could be living at 17 Denmark Rd as I found this on the 1901 census. Can someone please help and maybe come up with some links for me. Some information I do know is that Vera Annie Weeks married a Thomas Leslie Jones. I found that record iin freebmd as registered Poole district 1930. They had two children called Carol and Lillian.
Many thanks
Chris

Hello and welcome to RootsChat

Hope we can help you in your research

However it is RootsChat policy to not post names of the living/possibly living/ recently deceased - identity theft etc.

We are not allowed to do look ups on the 1911 census -copyright and other reasons

Having said that I can confirm the family you have found 1901 seems to be Vera Annie's family -the address is 17 Denmark Road (not Street)

these are the birth reg's for vera and siblings

Dear Suz,

As you can see I am new to this and so I apologise to you if I have infringed the rules on Roots Chat.

I presume by the 1901 census then that the parents were George Weeks - General Labourer and his wife Annie who was 34 at the time of the census.

Would you mind me asking how you managed to link Vera Annie and Winifred Kate?

Many thanks

Chris

In the early years of the 18th century the local venturer at Lulworth was one Charles Weeks, who lived at Winfrith, and who had developed a particularly shrewd way of defrauding the revenue. He would buy seized goods at legitimate auctions, and mix in the smuggled article for onward shipment, often to London. When an officer challenged Weeks to produce receipts showing that duty had been paid, Weeks could often do so. When he couldn't, he would threaten the officer with litigation; on the pittance paid by the government, no customs officer could afford a legal action, so the smuggler escaped.

Perhaps a relation?

I will make enquiries in the village - am pretty sure there are some Weekses here.

in view of the policy here to combat id theft, if I have any luck I'll give any contact I locate the url for this forum and let you know via PM.

Hi Chris
a Lot of the Weeks/ Wicks originated in the Swanage Area,
My husband has weeks in his tree back to a George Weeks in 1615 in Swanage.
The Dorset OPC site will take you to Swanage .
Good Luck

Hi Jean

I too am researching the Weeks line in Dorset, in the Wimbourne area. I have a Richard Weeks born around 1735, he married a Mary Padnor in 1760s and had 3 children, John, Betty and Robert. The latter is my 4x great grandfather. He finished up in hampshire. Richard was a sailor on a Man of War, and he died in Wimbourne in the 1790s.

Are any of these individuals connected to your line? I am desperately trying to find Richard or mary's parents but no luck as yet.

Steve
