Arnison family
« on: Thursday 11 November 10 15:05 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find information on Joseph Naters Arnison, his wife Elizabeth and his family who emigrated to America.  I know that they were there in 1890 when their daughter Elizabeth Isabella was born in Colorado City (?) in Mitchell County.  I still need to confirm this.
It seems they were back in England by 1893 when my Grandfather was born.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

looks like they made the outbound trip after 1886 and returned before 1893 based on the 1901
census?

Joseph didnt die for a few years after the last son was born.

Deaths Mar 1896

Arnison  Joseph Naters  age 36  Scarbro'  9d 239

Elizabeth has remarried - 1901 census of Cheltenham RG13; Piece: 2466; Folio: 69; Page: 29 shows her married/with a William Eley.

They married in 1898 -

Marriages Dec 1898

ARNISON  Elizabeth    Cheltenham  6a 840
Clarke  Constance Ellen L     Cheltenham  6a 840
ELEY  William     Cheltenham  6a 840
Murray  John Alexander S     Cheltenham  6a 840

so the question is, why cant the Arnisons be found on the Incoming Passenger lists after 1890 ?

PS. Joseph's Birth and Marriage Index entries show middle name as WATERS

I started a thread recently about passenger lists for the 1890s being very hit and miss because it wasn't until about 1900-1910 that the lists were typed. A lot of 1890s lists contain incomplete info or faded ink. Some just give a surname or first name. There could be several reasons why the Arnisons cannot be found on the incoming lists 1890-1894.
Researching:

LONDON, Coombs, Roberts, Auber, Helsdon, Fradine, Morin, Goodacre
DORSET Coombs, Munday
NORFOLK Helsdon, Riches, Harbord, Budery
KENT Roberts, Goodacre
SUSSEX Walder, Boniface, Dinnage, Standen, Lee, Botten, Wickham, Jupp
SUFFOLK Titshall, Frost, Fairweather, Mayhew, Archer, Eade, Scarfe
DURHAM Stewart, Musgrave, Wilson, Forster
SCOTLAND Stewart in Selkirk
USA Musgrave, Saix
ESSEX Cornwell, Stock, Quilter, Lawrence, Whale, Clift
OXON Edgington, Smith, Inkpen, Snell, Batten, Brain

I have extensive information (England and Nova Scotia, Canada) on  brewer & businessman Joseph Simpson ARNISON, the father of Joseph Naters ARNISON.  JSA's wife (and JNA's mother) was Isabella COULSON, said to be the daughter of Newcastle-upon-Tyne brewer Ralph NATERS.

I also have a lot of Canadian information on Joseph Naters ARNISON Jr (1884-1976), who farmed in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Is it possible Joseph Naters ARNISON (Sr., that is) ranched for a while in the late 1880s-early 1890s in Lea County, in the very southeast corner of New Mexico?  (Next door to Texas and close, in ranchland terms, to Colorado City.)  I have some information from there about a Joe ARNISON from England, and I have been wondering if it's the same person.

Do you happen to know the reason for the death of your Joseph Naters ARNISON in Scarborough, Yorkshire in 1896?  He would only have been about 36 years old.

I would be very interested in exchanging information.

Thanks for your message.  I am already in touch with the Maple Creek Arnisons.  We don't believe that this is the same Joseph Arnison as the dates do not agree and I have been in touch with the local museun and the facts don't appear to tie in, I'm afraid.
However, thank you for your help.

I have just had a better look at a photo of my 2 Great - uncles, the photographer was Rogers of Weatherford, Texas.  I don't even know if this is the same area as Colorado City as my geography is pretty poor.

Does this help any one?

I presume you knew about the 1901 Census findings shown earlier and the lack of success with Ancestry's Incoming Lists?

Yes, thanks.  I'm just trying to find out any info if any, about their time in Texas.
Thanks for replying.  I'm always grateful when some one makes the effort to help.
