Well done Alan, an excellent find  :)

You can still see the premises on Google Streetview if you search for the address, most recently it's been Creighton Tweedie, that appears to have been a music shop.

I've also found an application for demolition and redevelopment dated 07/01/2003 - it seems permission was granted and it says "the development shall be begun not later than the expiration of 5 years beginning with the date of the grant of this permission".  However patently the redevelopment didn't take place.

It's sad to see what was a fine shop in such a sorry state.

I am trying to remember what early Electric Kettles looked like.   Look up "Hotpoint"   Electric Kettles.   What would the other trade names  be for manufacturers of Electric domestic appliances?
Morphy Richards.   Swan;    Russell Hobbs   I think even the earliest Electric Kettles   had the detachable plug  which fitted into  the base  of the kettle.

I suggest you  look at old newspapers  and try to discover  when kettles would have retailed for four  shillings and six pence.

Wow, you folks are great .  :)

The chap at the door looks like my grt uncle but now I need to find the 1911 census to see what he was doing then. He lived in Close St which is near this. I have attached a photo to see if you think there is a similarity. His lifespan 1880-1937
I wonder why I am not getting alerts from rootschat that there are responses to this post?

This is a fascinating journey. Thanks everyone.
