John Read Nightingale
« on: Sunday 14 November 10 22:53 GMT (UK) »
Please can someone look up a Marriage record for me. St Mary the Virgin Dover 27th January 1828
John Read Nightingale to Jane Young. I am hoping this is my 3x Gt Grandfather marrying for the second time, any extra info will be much appreciated. I know John was a sailor and I have been looking for info on him for over ten years.

Many thanks

Hi Lis

Thank you so much for looking for this marriage. I found it on the IGI Pilot Scheme The film number is
1836194 which says tthis is St Mary the Virgin Church Dover.

After ten years of looking for John I thought at last I was getting nearer :'( I know he was always a sailor, he married my 3x Gt Grandmother in Whitby 1807, they had children in Shadwell, Portsea and Whitby and after their last child was born in Whitby in 1822, Mary and John disappear off the face of the earth. I don't know where John was born or died. I am just hoping that this is his 2nd marriage , then I am a bit nearer to finding him.

Many thanks

As I mentioned on the other post http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,495749.0.html the film covers parish registers so it may be that there are banns but not an actual marriage.

Ok thank you. I suppose they could have married somewhere else, or the marriage didn't take place at all. Again, my John is being elusive :(

Dover Library have films of the registers though I'm not quite sure what exactly.  You could contact them and ask them to check for a marriage and/or banns of they have them http://www.kent.gov.uk/LibrariespublicUI/OpeningTimes/LibraryDetails.aspx?id=23
