Sorry forgot to say she died in Sunderland in 1965. She lived with my grandparents for some time after my gg gd'father died in 1957  @ 35 Finsbury Street Monkwearmouth, but she wasn't there when she died according to the electoral roll presumably she was in hospital or in a home.

 Thanks Genie

And I see she died as plain Winifred Duke too- so I really don't think all those names are going to help us  ;)

If you don't know the exact place of her death, then presumably you don't have her death certificate.   You should try to obtain it, because it could reveal an informant who is a relative that you weren't even aware of.

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.

What a shame she didn't die after 1969- death certs gave the exact date of birth from then on.Providing the informant knew it of course.

I know can't seem to catch a break at all. I'll just have to keep digging.

Not sure if this is any help.  It does tick some of the boxes

!n the 1881 census at 38 George St Sunderland Durham  There is a Winifred Barrett born 1880 her brother John Barrett  born 1879
The head  of household is Elizabeth Wells born 1843 Norfolk and next is Isabella Scott wife born 1855-- no sign of the  husband
Isabella Scott and the two children are all born in Newcastle

There is also the possibility that she was not registered under the name of Winifred.

I have 1 instance in my family of a child be called "Albert" all his life.  He was baptised as "Edward" and registered as "Charles".   The only reason I know they are all him is that he was an only child (verified by 1911 census) and his age remains constant on all census returns and does his place of birth.

And as said before, she could easily have invented a fathers name to hide illegitimacy, also have many instances of this on my tree.
Fleming (Bristol) Fowler/Brain (Battersea/Bristol)    Simpson (Fulham/Clapham)  Harrison (W.London, Fulham, Clapham)  Earl & Butler  (Dublin,New Ross: Ireland)  Humphrey (All over mainly London) Hill (Reigate, Bletchingly, Redhill: Surrey)
Sell (Herts/Essex/W. London)

Thankyou - have thought she might be registered under her other names but after trawling through many Scott and Barrett registrations nothing seems to fit.  One constant is her birth date 24th October which is why I would like to know where the best place to look for a possible Parish Record match. Nothing comes up on Ancestry,Find my Past or The Genealogist. Any ideas?
