1841/1851 census Paisley - WALKER
« on: Monday 11 April 05 13:18 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate it if someone could check in the 1841 census for James WALKER, who was born in Paisley on 16 Sep 1826, so would have been 14 at the time.

His parents may have been William and Margaret WALKER.

James married in London 1855, so he may already have left Paisley in 1851.

Many thanks,

Justin

James Walker returned by his native Paisley in the late 1880s.

In the 1891 census he is listed with a son, Horace, 19, and a daughter, Mabel, 17 at 13 Niddry St.

Help with the 1841 look-up would be greatly appreciated.

Justin

Do you know any the names of his siblings?  There is a family in 1841 in Paisley with a James and William but the mother is Mathilda.

Hello Nutkin,

I was away over the weekend and had not seen your reply. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I do not know the name of any of James' siblings. I found the reference to William and Margaret Walker on the IGI. Transcription errors are not uncommon.

Does the age match for the James you found?

Rgds,

Justin

Nutkin,

I had a further trawl through the IGI and think it is quite likely that James had the following siblings:

Margaret, b. 1822
Andrew, b. 1824
Isabella, b. 1828
Elizabeth, b. 1831

Looks like William and Margaret had a shotgun wedding a few months before the birth of their daughter.

I would be really grateful if you could have another look in the 1841 census.

Justin

Thanks very much for the census data. It probably indicates that the family had left Paisley already.

It would have been interesting to establish an Irish connection given that I'm married to an Irish woman and live in Dublin!

Rgds,

Justin
