From the information provided by Amy the following would appear to be the burials in Stockbridge for Edward's parents (ie Richard and Hannah):

22 Sep 1801 - Richard Garey - age 48 (ie born about 1752/3)
28 Feb 1833 - Hannah Geary - age 78 (ie born about 1754/5)

The age for Richard, therefore, corresponds with the baptism on 24 Nov 1752 (parents - Edward and Elizabeth according to beta familysearch).

I found my original notes from when I saw Edward and Mary's marriage certificate:

Marriage cert seen in Guidhall 8/1/04: "Edward Garey of this parish, batchelor, & Mary Warner of the parish of (?Upminster). Married in this church by Banns this first day of March 1807"

I think I put in the "?" because I could not read it with certainty.

I am now trying to find links with other Gareys post their arriving in London. It is a surprise to find I am a Hampshire lad!

As I am new to this forum, ought I to be working on one of the other threads rather that the "Beginners" one? Although you have made it so worthwhile.

Thanks

Laurence

Hi Laurence,

For specific information regarding an individual you may be better posting on the Hampshire or London & Middlesex boards, as appropriate.

Hi Laurence,

I have just looked at the marriage register. The register does not say that Mary was of Upminster but rather 'of the same Spinster' (ie both Edward Garey and Mary Warner were living in the parish of St Botolph without Bishopsgate at that time).

Edward and Mary had a son Richard James, c 2/1/1825 St BB, m Eliza Webster 18/2/1849 in St Mary Haggerston, which is part of Shoreditch. I also have Richard James m Eliza (no birth dates) 3/1849 in Shoreditch. Are they likely to be the same, the date difference being that the registration was only 4 times a year and therefore a Feb wedding was registered in March? It would make another tie for me if I am right.

Yes. 18/2/1849 is the exact date of the marriage and which would be recorded in the March 1849 qtr of the GRO index.
