William A PINCOTT
« on: Friday 19 November 10 11:31 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me with a marriage query. I have the marriage of William A Pincott to May Smith in the Sep Qu of 1921 in the Exeter district from FreeBMD.
I need his parents' names to go back and hope that someone might have come across this as they've been looking through parish records.
I realise this is a bit of a long shot without a specific parish to ask for a look up in but you never know!
Thanks
Hilary

Hi Hilary

Have you tried looking for him in the 1911 census? Although you are not allowed to ask for look ups on here you can search for yourself. This might help

I have tried that and there are several variations on William/William A/Willie/William Arthur/William Alexander in various parts of England. One in Devon, one in Bristol and the rest in London, so I'm still stuck really.

Your best bet is to obtain the marriage certificate, which will only give his father's name and occupation, not his mother's. However, there will be valuable clues such as witnesses' names, abode, age, occupation - all of which should help. The certificate should also confirm his middle name - FREEBMD shows 3 WIlliam A PINCOTT birth registrations - Alexander, Arthur or Alfred being the middle names.

Hi all  :)

Am I right thinking William died in Taunton in 1960, age 63?

You definitely need the marriage cert but in the meantime my money is on this boy:

Birth William Arthur Pincott, Sep 1896, St George Hanover Square, 1a 483

1901
RG13/94 33 22
St John, London (St George Hanover Square registration district)
8a New Street

Walter Pincott, head, 27, Chef Cook, b. Devon Exeter
Annie, wife, 25, b. Scotland
William, son, 5, b. London
Walter, son, 3, b. London

Thank you both - you're both right in that I'm going to have to bite the bullet and order the cert if I want definite proof, I was hoping not to have to.

Yes he did die in Taunton then and his son William E is the man connected directly to me. He was married in Taunton and his first 2 children were born in Exeter.
William A married in Exeter which makes me agree with you that the St George's one is the most likely.

I've tried looking for Walter and Annie's marriage but couldn't find it on FreeBMD and since there's a choice of Exeter, London, Scotland or anywhere else they might have worked, I don't think I've much chance.

Thanks for your help and advice
Hilary

A Walter PINCOTT married Annie Elizabeth RANDALL March qtr 1895, Medway district vol 2a page 705.
In 1911 it appears that a WIlliam PINCOTT aged 13 is living with his sister Edith PINCOTT, aged 9 in Medway, Kent. A 34 year old Walter PINCOTT's death was registered in 1908 in Alverstoke, Hampshire, which coincides with the age of 27 years in 1901. Annie Elizabeth PINCOTT (his widow) re-married to either a James FREEMAN or an Arthur DREW.

When looking for the Pincott family in 1911, in Medway, try searching for anyone called Annie (the mothers name) with no surname, with anyone with surname Pincott in same household, then when that turns up a surname try searching for that surname with no forename.
