Mark Partridge of Podington
« on: Saturday 20 November 10 18:54 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Facts from the Podington parish records......

Mark Partridge & various wives baptised children at Podington as follows...
(assuming there is only the one Mark Partridge which I'm sure there was)

29 Apr 1674 Elizabeth - daughter of Mark & Mary
10 Feb 1675 Mark - son of Mark & Elizabeth (1)
6 Nov 1677 Ann - daughter of Mark & Margaret (she was buried 9 Nov)
7 Nov 1678 Margaret - daughter of Mark & Margaret
18 Mar 1679 Richard - son of Mark & Margaret
10 May 1685 William - son of Mark & Elizabeth (2) (born Aug 27)
16 Mar 1691 John - son of Mark & Elizabeth (2)
28 Dec 1693 Mary - daughter of Mark & Elizabeth (2)

Mark P married Mary Lavender ar Podington on 24 Sept 1672
Elizabeth (1) wife of Mark P was buried 5 Mar 1676
Mark P - yeoman - was buried 15 May 1706 when the burial record states his sons Mark and Richard P of Podington are his executors
Elizabeth (2) Partridge, widow buried 13 Oct 1731

So where's the burials of wives Mary & Margaret ?
& the marriages of Mark to Elizabeth (1), Margaret & Elizabeth (2)

According to the will of Mark Partridge, husbandman, of Podington of 1706; he leaves stuff to his wife Elizabeth (2), his daughter Elizabeth Wilson, his daughter Margaret, his son William, his daughter Eleanor, his son John, & his daughter Mary & appoints sons Mark & Richard to be joint executors. So all the above baptised children are mentioned - so there can only be one Mark.

but where's the baptism of Eleanor ?

According to the will of Richard Partridge of Podington died 1752 but dated 3/4/1714; (him being baptised in 1679) he leaves stuff to his brothers John & Mark & William, his sister Margaret now wife of Thomas Kimboll, his sister Elinor, & William Wilson (husband to sister Elizabeth); plus to his wife Ann.  A Richard P of Poddington married Ann Collis at Wellingborough Allhallows on 1 May 1712.

I am suspecting that the other marriages were across the border into darkest Northants.

Best of luck

John

2 months have gone by & not a sausage - so time to go back a generation & perhaps find the baptism of Mark.  According to will of Richard Partridge of Podington, buried there on 28 Mar 1670 he leaves items to - - -

- to daughter Elizabeth
- to son Thomas - the burial in the PR on 19 Feb 1682 does not give any details
- to my loving wife  (so loving he couldn't bear to name her !)
- to my son Mark (who also was executor)

more on this - 9 months down the line ....
this is speculation - but what do you think ?

Is the Richard Partridge who died 1670 the one that married Ellen Toller at Sharnbrook on 25 Nov 1641 & baptised daughter Elizabeth there in 1643 although mother's name is recorded as Helen. An Eleanor Fowler, & renamed as Towler in an appendix at back of PR transcript, was baptised in 1618 to father Thomas. If naming patterns follow then did Richard's son Mark name his daughter Eleanor after his mother ?

hello John

hope you won't mind me popping this on but i have come across a Mark Partridge in a will on my line of the Clare family of Stagsden.  I got the copy of the will of John Clare  from 1687 yesterday and in connection with his legacy to his children he leaves the money in the keeping of his 'brother Robert Clare and brother Mark Partridge' .  As i can't find john's marriage or baptism i'm trying to use these clues to help me.  I'm therefore guessing either a) John Clare's wife Elizabeth had the maiden name Partridge or b) John had a sister who married Mark Partridge.  i've looked at some of the previous posts on here so i'm guessing this Mark is either from Podington or Bozeat.

Not sure if this helps much but i'm going to carry on digging to see if i can find anything else on them.

Thanks

Joy

Hello Joy,  Thanks for that snippet regarding Mark Partridge being (step?) brother of John Clare. It made me review my notes, I have no Clare / Partridge relationships in my tree. I looked at Stagsden PR this morning. This John Clare whose will is dated 1687 - is he the one buried 24 Mar 1676 at Stagsden ? you say his wife's name is Elizabeth & you say "his children" who are they?, are their names mentioned? & have you established their year of birth? I can only see a Robert Clare baptised 19 Dec 1675 son of John & Elizabeth.

You say you cannot find baptism of this John Clare, have you also not found baptism of his brother Robert ?

What is noticable is 2 baptisms more or less next to each other
26 Aug 1638 Richard son of Richard & Catherine Partridge
17 Nov 1639 Dorothy daughter of Robert & Catherine Clare

I found a burial at Carlton on 2 Sept 1682 of Katherine, wife of Richard Partridge
more puzzles ?
regards John
