Robert Roe c 1809
« on: Sunday 21 November 10 15:24 GMT (UK) »
I'm am looking for any information on the Roe family in or around Rutland. I believe my great grandfather, Robert Roe was born in the area around 1809, he became a tailor journeyman, eventually moving south to Maidenhead and then into South London.
I would be grateful for any information at all.

Anymore info?  A rough idea where he was born in the area?  Any siblings?  Did he marry in Rutland?

Sorry I don't have any more info on the Rutland end. He married Letitia Lovegrove in Bray Berkshire, 27 April 1829, so no doubt his tailoring skills took him south. They lived at Maidenhead for a short time before settiling in London. I've also seen his name spelt Rowe re baptisms in Berkshire but I doubt that helps. Someone suggested that they may have been in the Clipsham area but as I don't know the area it means nothing to me. I would really love to be able to trace something of the Roe's to a time before they got swallowed up by London. I can trace their movement there on both sides of the Thames.
Any help would be appreciated and I do thank you for your trouble to respond.
William
