Hi All,

I came accross tihs site which I think is a good "next steps" guide.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/your_history/family/genealogy_guide.shtml

It gives some pointers on where to find sources of information after you've given up on BMD & Census.  Especially if you are lucky enough to have got to the 17th century.

Does anyone have other gems?

An interesting example I found recently was on the Royal Bank of Scotland site

http://www.rbs.co.uk/Group_Information/Memory_Bank/Our_Archives/Introducing_Our_Archives/hidden_treasures.htm

They have archives that include:-

...the early records of the Royal Marines - including lists of marines, pay, duties and vessels from the 1790s

Most of these would be listed on ARCHON.

http://www.hmc.gov.uk/archon/archondirectory.htm

I know this is similar to th e"useful links" posts but I'm specifically looking for early lists which may have been lost.  What about gravestone manufacturers do they have records?  If so where are they?

Cheers,
Pam
