I'm sure your publicity officer will see him as a potentially valuable ally and will approach him in the most appropriate manner, just pleased that it may be a new contact for you.
I had a conversation with my local district councillor who was clearly on the wrong tracks information wise - when I pointed this out he rather smartly informed that he was discussing the facts of the next matter we were going to discuss, and I should try and keep up!
