Mary Anne Hunter
« on: Wednesday 24 November 10 06:06 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find out anything and everything about my GG Grandmother, Mary Anne Hunter (or Hunt) who married Frederick Thomas Stone. She came from County Caven and was born in 1826. They had 4 sons - William James, Frederick George, John Thomas and Edward Arthur. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

For early details you would need to research parish records, and to do this you need to first establish the family religion and where they lived - i.e. parish or townland.

see :  Introduction to Irish Records

It might be a good idea to start the search by investigating more recent events to establish further details of Mary and her family, and then work back from there.

Where and when did Mary Ann and Frederick marry, and where were the children born  ?

No idea where they married - all their kids were born in South Africa, as far as I can make out. Family rumour has it that Frederick was born in Kensington, but thats uncomfirmed. I am guessing the family was anglican or presbyterian as those are the two prevalent denominations in the family over the years.

Someone has submitted records to LDS (www.familysearch.org)-

Mary Ann Hunter (1826 Co. Cavan, Ireland-10 Dec.1889 Uniondale) married (18 Jan.1875) Frederick Thomas Stone (20 Apr.1829 Kensington, England-11 Nov.1907 Uniondale   ). However, the following children are listed with dates well before the supposed marriage date-
1. William James Stone (16 Dec.1857-8 Sep.1932).
2. Frederick George Stone (15 Nov.1859 George, South Africa-6 Jan.1915).
3. John Thomas Stone (10 Feb.1862 George, South Africa-28 Sep.1919).
4. Edward Arther Stone (17 Oct.1863-8 Aug.1928)

If the marriage date is correct Frederick and Mary Anne either got married well after all their children were born or the children were from a previous marriage. Like all subm itted LDS records each details would need to be verified.

The LDS records also list wives but like the Ancestry tree all information would need to be verified. Edward was married twice according to PRF (Pedigree Resource File on LDS site)

I'd say the marriage date has 2 digits transposed and should really be 1857 not 1875 .. just nice time before the first birth

Thats very possible that the numbers were transposed. They managed to use some very dodgy spelling as well, so transposing a number is an easy mistake to make. But Id like to see where it says that FT Stone was married twice and what the same was of his first wife - is it possible to get this info?

No one has said for sure that Frederick T. Stone was actually married twice- this is why you need to check submitted records/trees to verify any information given.
