* COMPLETED* Question re Trove Digitised Australian Papers
« on: Wednesday 24 November 10 19:08 GMT (UK) »
I've just discovered the Trove Digitised Australian Papers and found 2 articles in the West Australian pertaining to an ancestor in 1940 and 1949.  The screen reads 'coming soon' - article part way through digitisation process etc...... likely within 1-28 days.  Any other posters have experience with this?  How reliable is that time frame?

Hi Sue,

It's pretty reliable - I don't think I've ever had to wait the 28 days even if the article in question only popped up that day or so.  Give it a week and check again :)

Cheers

When  am looking for something which I know took place in a certain time-frame, I use this link, because of the dating option. Perhaps it is the one you already are using.

The site seems to be a constant state of change and improvement, but is a wonderful resource indeed.

I've found a huge amount of information from this site. It's great for confirming family relationships, especially through death notices.  :)

I found my gg grandfather felt the effects of a lightning strike near his residence in 1861. (he survived, four bullocks did not).  ;D

I even found a serial bigamist.  :o

Cheers,
Alison  :D

Hi Sue,

Some of the articles I did have to wait two months for but it was worth the wait. :)I have now found most of the missing links in my husbands family thanks to this site.
Not a good site when there is housework waiting to be done though. ;D

The new digitised newspapers now on Trove works even better than the old NLA Newspapers site.
The information from the old newspapers provides so much information and stories about lost ancestors.
I usually look at family notices first for a surname - then the articles.. Its good to do the corrections for them too - now I feel like I am contributing.

And it was through this wonderful site that I finally managed......after many years of trying.....to get definitive proof that my Bauer family and a Canadian Bauer family were connected. My great great grandfather posted a death notice for his brother Hugh.....finally stating what we suspected to be the case.

I did hear rumour that funding was to be withdrawn.....let's hope this is not the case!
