Has anyone been able to identify from the photo what service Roland was in?

Other than his birth I have still been unable to find out anything about him.

It seems that Roland actually survived the war, only to die in New York in early 1919  :(

Do you know anything about his death as it seems he only arrived in New York in 1919?
