Hi sancti,
yes I did, when I realised that they came from Ireland and so far back, that was one of the first things I did checking the census to get a sense of the family, how many children, names etc.  :) 1841 being the earliest, I think I looked at the 1851 census as well, which is when I realised the names of mecie and salla were possibly wrong.  Muir Smith being about halfway down the sibling line was still at home when most had left and married or whatever.  At the age of twenty 20 odd was when I found him working as a quarrier, then he married Agnes Kirkwood and had Alexander amongst others and died aged around 34-38, probably blown up at his work place.  Never found a burial place for him either.

Tried the IGI for the pair
Found Muirs marriage, which I had already, you know how it is I progressed through the list of names from the 1841 census but either nothing turned up, or they were in Canada, or America.
But when it came to Muir married 23 Oct 1852 it stated that his parents were Hugh Smith and Mary Mc Taggart.   So she added a Mc in front which maybe the reason I cannot find them.  Just have to wait and see what happens with the Heritage Centre.  Have not phoned them again as with all the snow I doubt that they are open.
