Yes sancti,  thank you
went onto sp tried to find them came up with 3 possibles, non of them mine
now run out of credits, so this is a fine find.  Mair is Muir my 3x grgrandfather and the father of Alexander who married Janet O'may married in campbeltown 15/18March 1875. not quite legible
Wonder where Hellen went then and her sister Sarah (Salla) I wondered if that was gaelic and stood for something, or wether it was sally, because I must admist my original thought that her name was Lolla would not have been fashionable in those days, what do you think!

Found this for 1861

Hugh Smith 60 born Ireland Occupation: Labourer
Mary Smith 60 born Ireland

Address: 6 New St Pollokshaws Eastwood

It should be possible to trace their deaths due to them living beyond 1855.

Can't see a record for Hugh in 1871 but as the family seemed to move around the Renfrewshire area there is a possible for Mary living in the poor house

Name: Mary Smith
Age: 72
Estimated birth year: abt 1799
Relationship: Inmate

born: Ireland

Town: Paisley
County: Renfrewshire
Occupation: Bleacher

Durgh Poorhouse and Asylum

If this is the correct Mary you should get information about her origins from poor house records

Pollockshaws was the same area that Alexander lived in. Hugh and Marys' grandson.

Sancti, did you use Mctaggart or Just Hugh Smith and Mary Taggart?
Not sure what to try, will have to try both.
Still waiting for the Heritage centre to come back, but with all the snow doubt they will open again until it clears.

Thank you, its' given me renewed hope.  It is a strange part of genealogy that you start to plan your holiday with a view to finding the burial place of relatives. An Odd past-time but comforting when you find them.

According to what the note said, this woman not only found her grandfather, but she also found out about his wife, his children, his occupation, where he came from in Ireland and where he had been living prior to being in the poor house, so this may give me the mssing information I have been seeking to find the family in Ireland.
Brillian sancti.
if I get stuck, can I come back to you for help?

Sancti,
I have just been looking for that and came up empty handed.  Kept saying no matches.  Managed to get some credits, got to be careful for the next week or so, so these will have to last. ???
Tried LDS they came up with some but not mine.  Will have to go back to the link you gave me and look up Mary

Thank you that is a Godsend, maybe I can start to tie it all together, start to find out who the other children married if they did, etc.  It would be great if they all stayed around Renfrew and Peebles, makes it easier to find them hopefully. Cant seem to get very far today.... except for your help it would be a washout and a waste of time and money.  Thank you. :D

You should be able to find that death on SP using the search info given.

Just try Hugh Smith 1868
