cassidy`s in Cloone Co.Leitrim
« on: Tuesday 02 November 10 22:26 GMT (UK) »
Looking for information on the family of Philip & Bridget Cassidy (McPartlan) living in the parish of Cloone in the 1800`s. The are probably related to a John & Ann Cassidy (Reynolds) who live in townlands close by.Can anyone help please.
Evelyn Judd nee Cassaday.

Welcome to Rootschat. The 1800s cover about 100 years so it would help if you could give us a better idea of dates. Civil registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages started in 1864 (from 1845 for other marriages) so dates are extremely important.

Thanks for replying.
My G.Grandfather Philip was born circa 1798. I believe his father was a John Cassidy and his mother a Mary McManus.
The only confirmed dates I have are on some of their children who are recorded in parish records in Aughavas/Cloone parishes as being a : Rose, born 1848, Patrick 1850, Peter 1856, John 1858 , James 1845, & my Grandfather Charles in 1860.
My G.Grandmothers surname name is also apparently recorded as Bartly and McPartland.
Philip Cassidy is recorded along with his brother John in the Griffiths valuation holding several small bits of townlands between them.
There are several other Cassidy`s living close by I quess they could all be related or not !!.
Many thanks for your interest.
Evelyn Judd.

You seem to already have most of the early info.  According to the Tithe it looks like they came from Aughalough & Cavan (Killyfea) townland so there is a good idea of where they came from.  I doubt you will get any further back unless the estate records for the Digby Marsh estate are available.

The Irish Valuation Office has a record of all the people holding land at least since Griffith's Valuation.  When I went there I got a list of all the people who held land in a particular townland from c1857 up to the first half of the 20th century along with a map of the area.  It cost about E20 at the time (IIRC).  It won't give much new information but it is a nice fill-in to their history.

Thanks Jim. I have just now posted a message on the East Lothian Board because that is where the families went to post 1850.

I have recently returned from Scotland where I accessed the Scotlands People centre. After some time I managed to find the recorded of my great uncle`s death a John Cassidy.
On this record was the name of his Father & Mother , a John Cassidy and a Mary McManus. Does this mean anything to anyone.   Many thanks Evelyn Judd (nee Cassaday)

I've merged your latest post (which does give an idea of dates) with your earlier thread since multiple threads cause needless duplication and confusion for those trying to help.

Hi,
 Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I don`t have an exact date. But since my Gr. Uncle John was born in  Ireland in 1796 I quess his father John Cassidy & mother Mary McManus must have married sometime aound the mid 1700`s !!.
Sorry to be so vaque.
