India: Brickwalls some info to share
« on: Saturday 27 November 10 17:30 GMT (UK) »
For those who hit a brickwall in India

I have relatives in Zimbabwe who need to leave and settle in the UK. The one document I required was a marriage certificate between my grandmother and grandfather.

The marriage took place in Delhi, India.
It took me a loooooooog time researching and eventually ended up with the Indian Ambassador in London, The Foreign Office in Whitehall and two solicitors in London and India. The diocese in India was also written to  and the outcome was this.

When the British left India, a huge amount of documents i.e. Births Marriages and deaths were destroyed.

Just in case you are having problems in your researches in India.

Good luck in your quests.
