Thanks Mike! That's a wealth of info' there! Much appreciate your time and help.  :)
Re' the 'agreement' that's mentioned, do you recall if it had a date or year with it?
It mentioned Mark Noble being abroad - this would help me narrow the time that he left England.
Thanks once again for all that helpful information.
Regards George.

Greeting's George. . . .

Sorry I can't recall seeing a date on the agreement but as it related to the upkeep of the Chapel I would think it was done and dusted before they started to look after the Chapel. . .
so it would have to be around 1861.

also there might be a link to the where abouts of Mark with the mention of " Malaga " on Tablet No. 1.

But we'll see if anything comes up when I get that other info through the post if not I'll make a return visit

Thanks Mike, I know that Mark initially went to New Zealand, and that ties in with around 1861.
Apparently he returned to England around 1865, and then left again sometime before 1868.
All this info' is slowly filling in the historical jigsaw I'm trying to complete, and is much appreciated.
Regards, George.

greeting's Again George. . . .

Shame our Mark was not around during a Census.  . ;D
But having said that was there any recorded events like births, marriages during those years you mentioned there ? so we could then look it up on the 1837 site. . . .  or if he was in the forces then a search of the records down at " Kew". . .

Hi Mike,
The investigations are going quite well - I've located the birth date of Mark Noble (1834) from the Seventh Day Adventist's gen site, and also just managed to get a copy of his (New Zealand) will probate, from records here in NZ.
From that, I've discovered that he returned to the UK in 1865, (month  unknown) he had then travelled to Malta at some unknown later date, and died there in 1868 - I am now hoping to get a copy of a death cert from the Maltese Records Office.
Mark had built a substantial (now historical) house (Casa Nova House) here in Oamaru, soon after his arrival sometime in 1861, which is still in existance, and looks very much like the old, 'Danet's Hall' in Leicester.
It would have been built not long after the demolition of Danet's - so maybe that's why he named it 'Casa Nova'. (new house)
Local lore has it that he enlisted in a local militia or Colonial force some time after 1862, left Oamaru to fight in the NZ 'Maori Wars' and was then killed or died during his absence, as he never returned to Oamaru or 'Casa nova House'.
However, as mentioned, I've discovered from his NZ probate, that he appears to have died in Malta!
There is a period, prior to 1865, when still in NZ, where he 'could' have been  involved in hostilities, but all my searches of NZ colonial military records have failed to locate him - though these can be a bit patchy.
I've also discovered (from a probate testamony) that his last mentioned address, sometime between 1865 and '68 before leaving the UK once again, (enroute for Malta?)  was 13 Robertson Terrace in Hastings, Sussex.
Do you know if that was an active port at that time for travellers to the mediteranean region?
I'm managing to slowly fill in the complete picture, finding the actual dates/ships that he arrived and departed NZ and the UK would  be a big help, but so far no luck there.
Thanks once again for your interest and help in my quest - all the pieces
on Mark Noble and the people and places that concerned him are of much interest, and well appreciated.  :)
Regards, George.

Greeting’s Again George,

You seem to be getting there. . .

You asked if Hastings was an active Port this  brought to mind the following. . . .

c/o www.cinqueports.org

CINQUE PORTS.. . .

Hastings, Romney, Hythe, Dover, and Sandwich.

The original port of Hastings; possibly the premier port of the whole Confederation, until the eastward drift of shingle and a series of catastrophic storms, during the 13th century, caused the original harbour to silt-up.

The town then moved eastward, between the shelter of the East and West Hills, and today the resulting Old Town still possesses real charm, filled with half-timbered houses, narrow streets and passageways (known locally as twittens).
No wonder the town was such a haunt of Smugglers! The town retains a strong maritime tradition, with the largest beach-based fishing fleet in Europe.

Oh. . . by the way forgot to mention that the Poet
Geoffrey Chaucer is reputed to have married his 1st. Wife at St. Marys De Castro Church.

Hi George & Mike

Hastings is indeed one of the cinque ports as mentioned by Mike.
The great storm of 1298 did indeed fill up the original Roman Harbour (found again when the new shopping centre was built on the Central Cricket Ground) and the town moved to the East and that piece of land that was the Harbour stood empty till about 1802/3 except for a Rope Walk. It was later occupied by over 1000 squatters in the 1820's and became known as 'The Derelict Ground' and / or  'The America Ground' until it was cleared by the government in 1835. It again stood empty apart from 'The Rock Fair' until it was leased by Patrick Robertson who developed it into the new town centre, and the town slowly moved back to its original location.  Two of the first streets were Robertson Street and of course Robertson Terrace which faced the sea and was mostly lodging houses and libraries (shops were forbidden in Robertson Terrace). All Houses still remain as they were built in 1850/51

Rye, not Hastings was the active port for foreign parts.
