What did Abraham do?
« on: Tuesday 30 November 10 22:40 GMT (UK) »
In 1841, Abraham Colenutt of Niton Street, Niton, Hampshire had an occupation, but I'm at a loss to know what it was.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks
Sandra

It's Painter Glazier I think - but is the name on the page not Isaac?  Doesn't look like Abraham to me!

Cheers

Sorry, his brother is Abraham and is on the same page with his family, he lived at Normans, Niton. Attempting 2 things at once - mistake, eh?
Senior moment.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. That sounds pretty good to me, and it beats my attempt - ummm- and the transcribers, nothing!
An 1841 Glazier, maybe worked on preparing the 'house' for Queen Victoria for her later use.

In 1846 plumbers & glazier  http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=189-kpk&cid=-1#-1
 :) 1878 plumbers & Glaziershttp://books.google.ca/books?id=l8RCAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA352&lpg=PA352

But I agree looks more to be "painter" in that instance

Thank you all, especially JJ.
So he was in fact, all three, plumber, painter and glazier.
What a pity he wasn't around today, it would save me a fortune, as I could remind him that blood is thicker than water, and family comes first etc.
No doubt he would point out that our relationship is rather distant and that he has plenty of prior appointments and paying clients!

Well, that was an interesting task, and had led me to further clues and more resouces, so thanks again.
