Date this photo please - McBroom
« on: Friday 03 December 10 20:45 GMT (UK) »
This just received this photo from a distant releative.

The photo of the two people are husband and wife.  Samuel and Anna C.

The other photo is of my great grand uncle Samuel.  Does the other woman in the back look like the his wife?
They had a daughter Cleo.
I'm trying to date these photos.  I wish I knew someone who what familiar with antique shotguns.
I have an idea when the photos were taken but would like to hear from any of you that may want to chime in.

Does the woman in the middle seem like she could be the daughter Cleo?
Does the woman and man in the 3 person photo lookl like the same woman and man in the 2 person photo?

Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

First photo:  early 1920s, or possibly late teens.  Second photo is earlier and is 99% likely that it is your uncle and his wife Anna.  Middle woman looks enough like the older woman that she could be a late teens, early 20s daughter.

More... did you know "Cleo" was actually born Aug 1894 as "Viola C." which is how she appears on 1900 census?  By 1910 she is going by Cleo.

Thank you both
Yes I have all the dates and info on the family history and I appreciate your checking.
Viola C McBroom is my 1st cousin 2x removed
Samuel and Anna C McBroom are my great grand uncle and aunt.

I met a distant relative online doing research and she is scanning these images and emailing to me as we speak.
It's so rewarding to have these images, and to be able to finally "see" what our ancestors looked like and the expresions in their eyes.

Thanks again

Hi,

Showed the shotgun to OH.  Its a pump action shotgun, by looking at the frame work possibly a Winchester.

The shotgun looks very much like a Winchester model 1897 PU.  The first picture has a date of
21st Jul 1907, or have I read it wrong.

Yes the photo is dated but there was some question as to who dated it, when dated and if the date was correct.  My assumption that knowing the gun make model and year would help date the photo also sort of falls flat too after I thought about my own friends and family that hunt with guns that have been passed down within their/our own families.

I do appreciate your help and comments.

Hi Brian and friends
Seeing the photo of Viola Cleo McBroom reminded me of a photo of Violet McBroom b. 1905 in Illinois, daughter of Isaac McBroom and Hattie Florena Seitz.
I have hit a brick wall with Isaac McBroom and now wonder if he could be closely related to Samuel Todd McBroom.
I've attached some photos and would welcome your opinions.
