In the 1841 Ancestry Census for John (jnr.), he is styled: Mail Contractor, age 65, living in Cotton Street, Castle Douglas, with Jannet, age 50;  Margaret, age 20;  Isabella, age 20;  Marrion, age 11;  Jannet, age 7;  James Coates, age 15.
In the 1851 Census he is styled: Retired Mail Contractor, age 76, living in Cotton Street, Castle Douglas, with Janet, age 64; Isabella, age 32; Grace, age 23.

In the 1841 Ancestry Census for John (Flock), he is styled Agricultural Labourer, age 55, living in King Street, Castle Douglas, with Grace, William, Isabella, Elizabeth and Robert, for which I have no ages.
In the 1851 Census he is styled Labourer, age 69, born Colvend, Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, and living in King Street, Castle Douglas, with Marion, age 30; Elizabeth Taylor, age 6; William Kerr, age 7 MO.

I think I have now pretty well exhausted all the information I have on the family but I would be interested to learn of your cousin's burial information.
Please let me know if you have any problems in deciphering!

Hello Kati,
I see that Solway has been busy and supplied you with a large amount of info on your Douglas family.
If it is of interest to you I have photographs of the headstones relating to John Douglas & Dorothy
Barwise including one of the back of it with the details of their son Alexander. Also one of John Douglas & his 2 wifes Mary & Janet.
If you would like a copy of them send me a PM with an email address.

Hiya...

I have been interested to find and read this thread...

I am also related to John Douglas (1745-1820) and Dorothy Barwise (1745-1822) (5th Great Grand-Parents).

Their son John Douglas (1774/78-1855) married Mary Sergent (1777-1814) (4th Great Grand-Parents).

Their daughter Jane (1813-1887) married Samuel Blythe (1801-1878) (3rd Great Grand-Parents).

Their daughter Alexandrina Anabella Blythe (1846-1925) married Henry Farr (1828-1904) a coach builder in Wigan (2nd Great Grand-Parents).

Their daughter Jeanie Alexandrina Farr (1888-1963) married Richard Edmondson (1866-1937) in Kenya (Great Grand-Parents) and my grandfather and father were both born in Kenya.

I would be interested in any further information on the Douglas / Barwise connection and any photos that might be available of gravestones etc.

Thank you for any help...
