WILLIS family of Caversham
« on: Tuesday 12 April 05 22:48 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for any information on the family of John Willis, a miller of Caversham.   His daughter, Ellen (b. abt 1861), managed to meet Thomas Kent, blacksmith of Allerford, Somerset (b. 6 Aug 1861) and more surprisingly they married at St Mary's Church, Morthoe, Devon 21 Oct 1885.
I'm unable to find conclusive evidence of Ellen's birth or of her parents and forebears.   All info greatly appreciated.

Cheers Dave

Hi again

Here is a bit more

possible baptism for John from Caversham St Peters

1835 June 21st John son of James & Charlotte Willis - Lab of Lower Caversham

possible wedding for James & Charlotte
1824 Oct 27th James Willis to Charlotte Sellwood

and I think this is James and Charlotte in 1851 - Lower Caversham

WILLIS
James H M 52 Farm Lab born Caversham
Charlotte W M 48 born BRK Aldermaston
William S M 26 Farm Lab born CAversham
Mary D-I-L 26 born OXF Newnham
John GS 1 born Caversham

Their son John isn't with them he was probably working away on one of the farms in the surrounding area - but I am fairly sure this is the right couple

Hi Debbie,

This is really outstanding   ;D  I've been trying to trace this family for some time now.   The census info and especially the church records have advanced my research by light years.

I notice part of your area of research is Berkshire.   Let me know if any of your people stray over the Wiltshire border as I may be able to help.

Many thanks again

Cheers Dave
