Bear in mind - there is no 1890 USA census - almost entirely destroyed in fire.

U.S., City Directories, 1822-1995 -    1892 entry - Miss Emma A Fowler. 2720 Downing Avenue. Denver, Colorado.   Samuel Fowler (book-keeper) is also at this address.

Thank you. 2720 Downing Avenue was the address where James Nathaniel Fowler died in 1895 when visiting Samuel and it now looks like sister Emma was there as well. So Emma wouldn't have been in Canada in 1901. The only chance is if older sister Elizabeth was still alive, I last saw her on the 1861 Canada census with mother and siblings

Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Thank you both for all this information, someone must have arranged for the remains of Samuel and Emma to be brought back to Ottawa. Apart from the possibility of Elizabeth marrying and having children who organised it, there is only the daughter of Thomas Frederick Fowler and his wife Christine nee McPhail (Lily Kate Fowler). I think Thomas died on 12 Oct 1882, there is a likely burial in Beechwood.
