Well, I registered a few minutes ago, have found my way to this first page for the first time and have a chance to throw in my measly twopenn'orth immediately.
I think, I am not sure, that in the 1950s and/or early 1960s in Nottm there were builders-type lorries (red, I am fairly sure) with 'Bonser' painted on the doors.  Perhaps you could look in Nottm trade directories for the period?  I lived in Radford then, so perhaps their base was there.
