William and Honour COUNTER - Plymouth
« on: Friday 10 December 10 11:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I've hit a brick wall with the above couple.

I know that they married on 24 March 1822 at St Andrews Church, Plymouth.  They had one son that I know of, John Counter, born in 1822, Eggbuckland.

I would like to know if they had any other children and how I can find work backwards from them.

Thanks

Jo

According to Egg Buckland records, William & Honor COUNTER baptised:
29 Sep 1822 John
1 Aug 1824 William (buried 24 Aug 1834 William CAUNTER aged 10)
3 Dec 1826 Henry
In each case, William the father is described as a labourer of Egg Buckland.
The name is also written as CAUNTER and a burial is shown for Honor CAUNTER aged 24, 30 Aug 1829.
A James & Sarah CO(A)UNTER were also baptising around the same time - possible brother to William?

Hono(u)r WILLIAMS appears then to have been born ca 1805. It is probably worth obtaining a photocopy of the marriage entry to see if it quotes parish of origin or if their are any witnesses' names that might be clues.
