Hi Trish
Oh - will have a look. Must have missed that he was deceased when peeking at Margaret's 1877 marriage!  That would make some sense then.  He dies as child no. 3 is born, so she finds a new man between 1856 and 1861.  If this is Henry Wright, then where does the Barton name come from.  Surely there wasn't time for two marriages?!

Can't find a Fosh/Barton marriage or even a Donaghue/Barton. Also checked Barton/Wright and there is a Mary Ann Barton marrying, but to a James Wright - not Henry.

Hmmm

Marriage certs don't necessarily tell whether fathers are deceased or not.

And as you've already found out with Margaret, telling the census man you're married doesn't necessarily mean you actually are.

It looks like Mary never actually married either Mr Wright or a Mr Barton if this is her death: Mary Ann Fosh, Dec 1876 Watford.

Aaah - that looks very much like her.  Daughter Margaret married in 1877 and lived in Watford.

This side has been really messy.  James Millington's father was John, Hairdresser in 1877 and I still can't identify them on the 1851.    William Fosh the tinker should also appear on 1851, but I can't see an obvious one.

Been at this all day, so maybe I can't see the wood for the trees anymore!

Online trees are useful as a guide but everything in them should be checked.

The 1852 marriage in Shefford looks feasible, bearing in mind that Shefford marriages post 1812 aren't on the IGI or BVRI. So it needs checking, from which you'd get fathers' names.

I can't find a baptism for Mary Ann Donoghue in Leighton Buzzard. Might she have been a widow, given that if her 1861 census age of 36 is correct she'd have been 27 when she married? The marriage entry would confirm her marital status.

I have doubts that the death in Watford in 1876 is her. The name's wrong (Mary Ann Fosh, rather than her married name of Wright - if she actually married Henry, as I can't find a marriage) and the age of 46 is some way off, giving an implied birth of 1830.

Welcome to Rootschat Mary

It's always nice to see the answers on the thread, rather than offboard. That way, future researchers can see the complete story.
