Rosetta Ann TOLLEY

Looking for any details on Rosetta Ann TOLLEY and her ancestors. What I know so far is;

She married a Thomas Henry Prynn Ivey sometime between 1873 and 1883. Have been unable to find same on freebdm. They lived in South Africa at least in 1884, so not sure whether married in England or South Africa.

When she died in 1917 in South Africa, the Death Notice showed that she was born in Somerset East, she was 59 years, and he parents were deceased (no names). I have been unable to find her birth on freebdm and other sites.

I have most details from South Africa, but need any help on her family and background from Somerset.

Somerset East is in South Africa rather than the UK (I didn't know that until I googled!) so it looks as if she was South African born and bred!

Under Where Born:   it said          Somerest East    -    British

I wonder if the British bit refers to the fact that the family are not long time settlers in SA - perhaps Rosetta's parents emigrated to SA?  I only say this because I cannot see any trace of Rosetta in English BMDs.

There is a marriage in SA that I've come across between Samuel Tolley and Esther Rosetta Holland which I wanted to bring to your notice purely because of the name.  They married 27 Aug 1851 in the Methodist church, Somerset East

I'm finding the NAAIRS database rather clunky to work through - not used to dealing with South Africa! - but there is a death notice for Samuel Tolley in 1858.  I'm not sure how you access this, but it might mention any children that he had.

Being South African, I'd be inclined to agree with Spidermonkey on this one - and I'd also look at the marriage between Samuel Tolley and Esther Rosetta Holland.  Unfortunately I cannot offer to check it out for you as I'm situated several hundred (over a thousand in fact) kms away from Somerset East, but you might find more info if you posted on the South African board.

Again, this is perhaps something to file to one side for the moment, but there is a birth for an Esther Rosetta Holland to Thomas and Sally Susanna Holland.  Bn 9 April 1832 and ch 1 Aug 1832 at Southwark St Saviour.
