Keeble-Courtis Family
« on: Monday 13 December 10 20:48 GMT (UK) »
Hey Guys

I am new to this! I am desperately trying to trace my family who I have just discovered are from Sligo in Ireland. I have traced some of them but I have hit a brick wall and would love to know if there is anyone out there who can help me.
The basic details I know.
My Great Great Grandparents were Richard  Courtis born around 1828 in Polnadiva, Ballina, Sligo. He married a Rebecca Keeble on 23rd February 1858 in Dromore West Parish, Ballina, Sligo, Ireland( Kilmacshalgan, Sligo,). lThey had several children and ended up moving to Plymouth Devon and I have no idea why. I would love to know more information about the family. If anyone could help I would be so grateful.
Some of their children were : Robert Benjamin 1868
John Thomas 1864
Alfred Charles 1865
Richard 1868
Thomas Edward 1869
James Joseph 1871
Rebecca Hannah 1871
Frederick John 1873
Harriet 1874

Perhaps the move to England was in connection with Richard Courtis' occupation- certificates or census records should show what he did if you haven't found out that yet.

Hi Amy
welcome to rootschat.

The 1901 and 1911 censuses for Ireland are online at www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy/censusrtns.html.

They are free to search and look at. They are the only Irish cenuses that survive (apart from a few fragments)

Only small fragments and they are not all in one place.
What time scale are you looking at?
