Hello a chesters,

Do you know where Samuel was born in Cheshire? This might narrow the area down a bit to search for William.

I notice that there is a baptism for a Samuel Moseley on the IGI site, details from the Bishops' Transcripts, this shows Samuel Moseley baptised 2 September 1810 at Church Minshull, son of William Moseley and Elizabeth.

Samule appears to marry Frances Farr in Sandbach in 1833. Is this the same Samuel as you have mentioned?

The Land Tax Assessments on the same site show a William Moseley at Church Minshull in 1816. There seem to be entries for him in quite a few other years too.

There is a baptism for William Moseley in Church Minshull in 1806, son of William Moseley and Elizabeth.

I don't know how certain the year of his birth is but there is a marriage in Warmigham in 1800 for William Moseley to Elizabeth Hassall. This is not that far from the other places mentioned.

Thank you for that information. The Samuel that I am looking for was born "About" 1811 at Murhall? in Cheshire.

Yes this is the same Samuel who married Fanny Farr in 1833 at Sandbach. My original information was for a Fanny Barr, which caused a lot of strife in tracing.

I have not thought of the IGI site and the Land Tax Assesments, but will certainly be persuing that line. From what little information I have been able to aquire, I was of the impression that they were of the peasant strata, but may be a little better off than originaly thought.

Thank you very much for your interest and information. I will have much more to work on now.

Hello a chesters,

I think it is reasonable to assume that this is the right family.

There are places with the names of Church Minshull and Minshull Vernon in Cheshire. Church Minshull is still a very quaint old village with many old houses.

William and Elizabeth Moseley are in Chester in the 1861 census. The household is as follows:

William Moseley married, aged 52, Miller, born Cheshire Minshull.
Elizabeth Moseley, wife, aged 52, Dressmaker, born Lancashire Liverpool.
Sarah Moseley, daughter, aged 24, Housekeeper, born Cheshire Minshull.
Martha J Farr, niece, scholar, aged 10, born Lancashire, Manchester.
Elizabeth Reynolds, niece, aged 17, unmarried, born Chester.
Frances Williams, lodger, unmarried, aged 38, Dressmaker, born Chester.

They are living at 23 Trinty Street and Trinity Street still exists in Chester today.

The reference is RG9/2629 Page 48.

Samuel and Fanny Moseley are with Samuel's brother, Edward, in the 1861 census. The family is living in West Derby, Liverpool. The place of birth of Samuel and Edward is Church Minshull, Cheshire.

Let me know if you want the full details.

William Moseley, living in Chester and with an occupation of Miller, would have been a person of some standing then.

Hi A Chesters,
You could also try this site for a copy of a will for any Moseley's.
 http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/leisure,_culture_and_tourism/record_office/catalogues_and_indexes/wills_database.aspx

I did find one for a Elizabeth Moseley in 1871 a widow of Chester and on Ancestry she is shown as a widow of Chester who died May 28th 1871. it was proved by an Elizabeth Cooke a spinster of 19 Trinity Street an executor, on the 25th Nov 1871, effects under £200 .

Best wishes

Cathy
