Please identify uniforms - Photo now attached
« on: Saturday 25 December 10 02:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi.

I only have a scan of a photocopy I'm afraid. This is late WW1, since
the child sitting on her mother's lap was born 5 Nov 1916.

I dont know the soldiers' names, but it may help to sort out who the
groom is if you could please identify the uniforms.

Thank you.

At first glance i thought the chap on the left was a member of the R.A. because of the shape of the badge, the chap on the right, his badge looks a bit like the Royal Dragoon badge, where were these people born. The area from where they come from maybe the biggest clue to which regiment they joined up to. :)

Hi lowanslow,

Thank you for taking  the time to look at this. The location is Birmingham, UK.
Five brothers who are missing from the photo, all Birmingham people, were serving
with:

   1st/6th Royal Warks
1st Worcs then 8th Royal Berks
   13th Pioneer Batt Gloucs
3rd/9th Royal Warks then 1st/4th Northamptonshire
   RASC

Thankfully, four made it home. the fifth paid the price of trying to engage a
machine gunner.

Any chance you could scan the photo a bit larger with higher res for us?
Very difficult at this size to pick out any details.
Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

Hi neil1821,

I feared the quality would be too poor. Sadly, I only have the scan,
not the photocopy, so I can't improve it, but Sylvia seems to have
done so. soldier 2 is the primary interest.

Have just put my Xmas FindMyPast subscription to use, and found a possible
marriage in the West Bromwich, Staffs registration district.
After talking to cousins, it took place in Handsworth, Birmingham.

Here, A George Clark marries into the family, Dec 1918. Apparently
he is known to have served with a Gloucestershire regiment and was
discharged wounded. There may have been other Regiments if my reply
#2 is anything to go by.

Nobody can provide a service number or an age. The bride for the
marriage I found was was 23.

After looking at the cap badges again, then popping on to the sites, I think the chap on the left was a member of the Yorkies, the chap on the right, I was thinking he was a member of the Warwickshire Reg, Birmingham's. The Badge for the Gloucestershire's looks to big, in the depth, for the one he is wearing, hope this helps.  :)
