Soldier burial!
« on: Monday 27 December 10 17:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but I'm sure someone will tell me...

My gg grandfather was a Patrick Quinn from Dublin. In 1922 he was sent with I think the Dublin guards to try to put an end to the war. They landed in fenit in august/September 1922 and in the first couple of days he is supposed to have been shot.

I'm just wondering where he would ave been buried because he was said to have been buried in Kerry. Also would there have been a death cert for him? His wife and kids in Dublin never knew where he was buried until the 60s but his wife didn't tell anyone.

Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.

In think there should be a death cert, which would probably be the first detail to research, as this would give you a date and place of death etc which should help narrow down the search.

Do you have an approximate year of birth for Patrick ?

If a date of death could be established then you could try for details in the newspapers of the time as they may mention some details - e.g. details of the death, a possible inquest and maybe burial.

I'm just wondering would his death have been registered in Kerry or by the administration in Dublin? If in Kerry, what reg district is fenit in?

I believe that Deaths are supposed to be registered in the district where they took place. The village and townlands of Fenit (Within & Without) are in the registration district of Tralee.

article on google books mentions the Fenit operation (8 August 1922) and mentions losing 10 men during the landings. I dont see any names mentioned...

On Michael Collins http://generalmichaelcollins.com article about this, General Paddy Daly - 450 Guards (Pro-Treaty)
if you go on this site, then just type in the box - Fenit - then click on Paddy Daly

General Paddy Daly is buried at Mount Jerome Cemetery

The death might be at County Kerry - Tralee

Hi rathmore,

Thanks for your response. I can't see Patrick quinns name on that list for 3/8/22, is it my eyesight or is he not listed?
