Sorry...somehow all my text was not listed after I added the Santa
Anyway I was looking for  links to my paternal grandmother.  I have searched for ages and never been able to get anywhere with this lady.
Her name was Valjean Olga Crittenden-Stuart, she was born in Stockton Pennsylvania, USA in 1886, married my grandfather in 1911 in Auckland N.Z.
I have never been able to find anything about my grandmother. It is such an unusual name I would have thought it easy but I cannot find any links to her anywhere. I have her marriage to my grandfather and know she died in Auckland N.Z....but I have never been able to find a birth certificate or any siblings, its as though the lady has never existed anywhere
I would appreciate any help of links to any help
regards
Marie

Have you found her listed in any U.S. records (like a birth certificate, 1900 census, etc.)?

Not thus far.  I have used Ancestry.com to try and find her, but never ever came up with anyone called Crittenden Stuart.
I have never had any response for that name anywhere.

So, is the first trace you've found of her the marriage in 1911? Are there any helpful details on the certificate like her parents' names, etc.
I'm wondering if the name (Valjean Olga Crittenden Stuart) actually the one she was born with/used before she went to New Zealand.

Meant to say that I don't think there is a Stockton, Pennsylvania but there is a Stockton, New Jersey (Hunterdon Co.). It's on the Delaware River and across the river is Pennsylvania.

Hi

Stockton is a town in the Hazelton County of Pennsylvania.  I have my grandmothers marriage certificate, which says she was born in Stockton Pennsylvania, her mothers name was Elizabeth Olga Crittenden Stuart nee Koch.  I have searched but I cannot find any references to anyone with the name Crittenden Stuart, or the name Koch.  I just don't know where or how to search.  I believe my grandmother was born in 1886, but cannot find any birth certificate, or how to search for this.  I have looked on Ancestry.co.uk, but just no hints or links as far as I can see.  Like I said its like she never existed...but as she was my grandmother and I do have her marriage certificate...she must have lived..ha ha
Anyway that's really all I actually know.
Many thanks
Marie

I'd searched for 'stockton, penna' earlier without results- searching for 'stockton, hazelton, penna' brings it up as a borough of Greater Hazleton not a separate town. Anyway, at least that's the location confirmed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hazleton,_Pennsylvania

1886 is too early for statewide registration (think 1906) so for earlier records I think you need to contact county for information. Hopefully some one will be able to give you details of where to check.

Added- since birthplace is only from her marriage certificate can't be 100% sure she was actually born there when she said she was.
