HODGSON - CLERKENWELL

Hi there

Can anyone help me with either the mother's maiden name or GRO index for the birth certificate of Robert Hodgson born in Clerkenwell c. 1838.

His parents were John (born c. 1808) and Jane (c. 1811).

Anything else you can tell me would also be greatly appreciated.

I already know that he married Ann E. Walters and had at least 6 children.

There does not appear to be a birth registration
If he was born prior to July 1837 there will be no birth registration but as yet I can't find one between then and March quarter 1838

The only possibility of finding Jane's maiden name is to purchase a birth cert if you can find one of these children registered, I picked out just Ann and Robert with no joy but I did find the following.
There is a James Edward registered Clerkenwell Dec qtr 1846 Clerkenwell, this may or may not be your James shown on 1851 aged 4 it is your decision if you decide to order the cert

This could be a possibility.

John Hodgson married Jane Joy on 28/08/1831 at St George Hanover Square. Both were of the parish & witnesses were William Kent & Mary Hutchins.

Yes Sharon, I looked at that one, it seems the only 1 that fits in before the birth of their first child,  Jane aged 18 on 1851, it is strange that it looks as if only 1 child was registered, can't be 100% sure , James Edward reg Dec qtr 1848, registration  wasn't compulsory till around 1875, apparently some people thought just having their child baptised was enough but then only 2 baptisms have been found so far for thew Hodgson children
