Advice please
« on: Friday 31 December 10 23:24 GMT (UK) »
I have found an ancestor May Brash, on the 1911 census. She is living with a Page family in The Blacksmiths Arms beer house in St Peters road St Albans.

The  census show that the Pages' adopted May, so she would probably become May Page.

Whereabouts would May have been married, presuming she did marry and in that area.?
I have searched the marriage indexes for her, but without much success.

I cannot get any further with this person, so would appreciate any comments  or advice as to my next move.  Thanks Dolly

Long story Pauline, but she was I'm sure registered in Cardiff Wales as Mary Brown, bn 1894

Mother & Father had fled to Wales due to his defrauding the school funds,  they must have

sent Mary  to England out of the way. Father died leaving Mother on her own in Wales until about mid 1900s, her son David now in the Navy , then Mother turns up in workhouse 1911 census.
What happened after that is my brickwall.  All the best Dollly,

Hi,

I found this lady on a passenger list,

Ship:  IMPERATOR
Date of departure: 25 September 1920
Port of departure: Southampton
Passenger destination port: New York, USA

Miss May BRASH
Age: 27
Sex: Female
Occupation: Shirt Maker

Her name and age are a perfect match, what do you think?

As she has kept her name as BRASH on the 1911 census when she was 17 I think she would have stayed with that name.

Regards,
Daisy

Hi

Would you just explain how you get to/from an unsure Mary Brown in Cardiff to Mary Brash in StAlbans.

It may help us to understand.
Is she really a Brown with the Cardiff bit unsure or is the Brown bit unsure?
Would you give us any details of her own family (names/dobs, etc) and the Pages?

Thanks
Ray

  Ray, ok here goes,

Thomas Brash fled to Wales with his wife and my Grandfather who was about 8 years old then. Thomas had took money from  the school of which he was head master, and was now a wanted man!
I then searched the 1891 census for this family, no Brash, but I came across a Thomas Brown, wife and son,  and it just seemed to shout at me!

1901 Wales census showed  a Mary or May Brash with the Page family in Herts, and born in Barry, Wales. Knowing that Thomas had lived and worked in Herts it seemed right that this Page family must have  been close friends or ? Anyway things just seemed to slip into place. I know I am assuming right as I have other people who helped in my search to get an ending to the saga, but It is was what happened to Mary Or May Brash or (Page) that is now my quest,  Dolly

Hi Dolly,

I hope you don't mind but I'm putting this link to your post on the American thread in case it helps anyone find her,

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,504298.msg3610470.html#msg3610470

I see that unfortunately the May on the passenger list doesn't look like 'your' May
