Burial - Edward Bull Churchill
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 08:58 GMT (UK) »
Morning all,

Can someone who knows about Nonsuch Park Area  of Surrey please help.

I'm trying to locate my maternal grandfather Edward Bull Churchill's grave.

He died 6 October 1928 in Portsmouth.

My sister recollects, she was 2 at the time of his death, being in Nonsuch Park the day he was buried/cremated. This is her first childhood memory. She remebers being in a large park. She was told by mother that it was Nonsuch and the occasion was the burial of her grandfather.

Edward Bull Churchill lived at Earlsfield Road in 1901. My guess is that he still lived in this area at the time of death. My mother was married at All Saints Tooting Graveney in 1926 two years before his death. This must have been near her parents home.

Any of you locals suggest where he might be buried?

Thanks

Hi

These are the cemeteries in Wandsworth (Earlsfield Road and Tooting are in the London borough of Wandsworth)

Taken from the help guide at the top of the Rootschat Surrey board

A guide to burials in the London area

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,403466.0.html

WANDSWORTH:  http://tinyurl.com/lcxopp
Battersea New Cemetery, (Morden Cemetery) Lower Morden Lane, SM4 (1892)
Putney Vale Cemetery, Stag Lane, SW14 (1891)
Putney Lower Common Cemetery, Mill Hill Road, SW13 (1855)
St Mary’s Cemetery, Battersea Rise, SW11, (1860)
Wandsworth Cemetery, Magdalen Road, SW18 (1878)

You would have to contact Wandsworth cemeteries department (link given) for a search in their records

Nonsuch park is in the most northerly part of the Surrey borough of Epsom and Ewell (see the Surrey burial guide on the Rootschat Surrey board - Epsom cemetery has been indexed and is online). Nonsuch park is a park not a cemetery.

The nearest cemeteries to Nonsuch park would be in the London borough of Sutton  or possibly Merton (see help guide for details).

In 1928 there were far fewer crematoriums and far fewer cremations. Wandsworth did not have a crematorium until 1938.
