Adam Hogg married Margaret Pryde
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 12:03 GMT (UK) »
I am currently researching Adam Hogg born July 23rd 1852, Pencaitland to John Hogg and Helen Wright. Adam married Margaret Pryde, born circa 1852, Newbattle, Edinburgh on January 31st 1879 at Newbattle. They had issue.

John Hogg 1879-?? Newbattle
Robert Hogg 1881-1934 Edinburgh
Margaret Hogg 1883-?? Edinburgh
Adam Hogg 1885-?? Edinburgh
James Hogg 1886-?? Edinburgh
Helen Hogg 1888-?? Edinburgh
Euphemia Hogg 1890-?? Edinburgh

The family are recorded in the 1881 census: Prospect Street, Cannongate, Edinburgh
1891: Lower Viewcraig Row, cannongate, Edinburgh

I do not know the precise birth/death dates for either Adam or Margaret nor do I know who Margaret's parents were.

If you can add any information on this couple or believe you are a descendant of them and wish to know more on the family then respond.

Margaret's parents' names will be on the marriage entry which you can view for a small fee on ScotlandsPeople.  There is a birth included on the IGI for Margaret Pryde in Newbattle in 1851 which may be her.  The marriage entry might confirm this.

Hi Captain B

Adam Hogg was the son of John Hogg and Helen Hogg, my husband is decended fron his brother John b. 19th Aug 1838.

Old Parish record for Adam reads:

Hi captain & Anita

I am another Hogg researcher for the same Pencaitland family. The sibling I am researching  is Adam and John’s sister Margaret b14 Mar 1844 Pencaitland.  Margaret is my 2x Grandmother so thought I would join you both by offering some new info from my branch and hopefully learning of any info from your branches.

Info I have one step back for John Hogg and Helen Hoggs eight children is a bit sparse, birth dates and birth places is about my lot apart from captains info on Adam, thanks for that,so any help there appreciated. I have Johns death record as 1884 but his parents christian names are blank, mothers m.s as Ross, anybody any ideas of the christian names ? also any help with Helens 4siblings spouse/deaths much appreciated.

Hi captain and Anita

Anita,
many thanks for Johns branch of the Hogg tree.
I started researching the Hoggs a good few years back but got side tracked before collating much info,so feeling a bit lost at the moment. I would like very much to read your theories re Johns parentage.

captain,
I also have Prydes/Prides in my FT but unfortunately not your Margaret. Have you made any progress with Margarets parentage ?

Fiona

Fiona, Anita

I believe John Hogg's parents to be George Hogg and Janet Anderson. I believe the reference to a mother named Ross on his death certificate is a mistake on the part of the son who recorded the death. Helen died on February 11th 1870 and was the daughter of William and Euphemia Hogg.

I've taken the information you have both provided, along with a couple of other snippits from Scotland's people and encorporated them into a Hogg family tree which can be found at

http://www.myheritage.com/site-59682971/porter-crooks-families-northern-ireland

The tree is password protected so on arrival you will have to request for membership of the site.

John Hogg and Helen Wright were my 3 times great grand parents

Adam Hogg was my 2 times gt grandad born July 23rd 1852 to November 28th 1934.
he married Margaret Pryde
They are buried in Piers Hill cemetary in Edinburgh

They had nine children including
My great grandfather Robert 1881-1934 is buried in Londonderry City Cemetary in Northern Ireland
among his brothers was George Hogg who was a victim of the Quintinshill Rail Disaster in Gretna in 1915

There's more which can be found on the tree.

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve

Firstly thank you for sending the link, will take a look later. I'm a bit lost with where John Hogg & Helen Wright come in apart from being your 3x Grandparents, whats their connection to John and Helen Hogg? I agree mistakes happen on BMD records but still feeling a bit new to the Hogg research. George Hogg and Janet Anderson I have still to check them out, never looked at them before and no grandchildren named after them in John and Helen's family although there is a largish gap between Euphemia and John where maybe there had been other children born.

Typo. John and Helen Hogg. Helen Wright is elsewhere in an unrelated part of my tree.
