1871 Census lookup please
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 19:46 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Can anyone with access to the 1871 census please give me details of all the John Howarth's and John Howorth's born in Rochdale area about 1865.

I'm trying to get an idea on how many were around.

Sadly that is all I have to go on to narrow down the search for him

Thank you

Jonathan

+/- 2 each side of 1865 there are 16 John Howarth's born Rochdale.  It's not an uncommon name, perhaps you should backtrack to where you first saw him, and also get the details from his marriage certificate to give you some more clues.

Birthyears 1864-1866 there are 10 entries under Howarth but 7 have middle names

Only one entry for Howorth - born 1865 Rochdale and stepson of Squire Whitham and Keziah

I was thinking of trying to take each possible John Howarth forward. Its the hard way but i've come some what stuck when trying to take him back.

His marriage certifcate is not much help. 1889 and where his fathers name should go is 'DECEASED'
Hard to make out the address but it looks like 4 Arnold Street.
Both witnesses are from the bride's side of the family.
The couple are living together in 1891 but not at 4 Arnold Street.

Any ideas on what to try now?

Thanks

Jonathan

You never know if anybody else has been researching the family and come up with a clue - without knowing more we are unable to help ie who is the "bride"?  What IS their address in 1891.  What children did they have? might they have used a naming pattern?  What is his occupation?

Quite importantly, did you get the marriage certificate from the GRO? and have you seen for yourself the actual Parish Register which could have fuller information - not saying that it will, but I have know it to be different.
