Help with a location?
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 21:20 GMT (UK) »
This is a cut-out from an 1807 Muthill, Perthshire marriage.

All of the entries have the 2 names, and a location after a name if they were not from Muthill.  The names here are John McCulloch and Janet Bennet.  There is something written after Janet Bennet, so I think it's a location.

I am hoping that some of you, who know Perth far better than this Canadian, would recognize it.

Thank you for looking!

Hi

Just an outside guess - could it be a shortened form of Auchterarder  - Ochter-der  :-\

It's not far from Muthill

I'll look at that.  Thanks.

My search here is further complicated by a 2nd Janet Bennet.  The above couple's son married someone whose mother is also a Janet Bennet.  Births were overlapping, so I know they aren't half-siblings, but 1st cousins are a possibility.

Often, the place after the name is another parish.

Here is a parish map of Perthshire:

I agree with JustLooking, I think its an abbreviated Ochterarder which according to the link below was an alternate name for Auchterarder. If you google Ochterarder you will get quite a few hits.
