I'm not sure if this is the correct way to reply. This is my first visit to this site.
Reginald George Orton died in Tallangatta, Victoria, Australia, on 4th July, 1997.
He was my father's younger brother.
But there appears to be a discrepancy in detail. All other details provided in this string match, except that Reg was born in Preston, Victoria, Australia. He met "Pat" Hanlon in England while he was serving there in the airforce during the War.

Correct.

I am curious, though.
As an Aussie I spend lots of time looking for details of my ancestors in the UK. I am curious about someone in the UK who is searching for details of an Aussie family.
Maybe there is something we don't know!?

Alistair.
p.s. Joseph Richard Orton had English ancestors. His wife Minnie Russell had Scottish and Canadian ancestors.

Perhaps Jane will  soon be online in the forum again and see your reply.

It may be the HANLON side that is her particular interest  :D.

Hi Jane,
I'm not sure how far I should go with this... maybe I should try to get in touch with my cousins, whom I have not seen for years. I was only about nine years old when the war ended, and Reg and Pat came to live in Melbourne. My parents and I were living in country Victoria, and seldom got to Melbourne.
Reg was the youngest of 3... my father, Russell Orton was the eldest, then Marj, then Reg.
For reasons that I never understood, we did not have much contact with Reg and Pat and their children. They had three children - Angela, James and Bronwyn. Auntie Marj kept in touch with them and they all came to Marj's funeral.....  Jim also came to my dad's funeral... but we were not told about Reg's death until after his funeral.
I had visited Reg and Pat in Tallangatta in 1997, just a few months before Reg died. If the Hanley rellies in  UK are interested, I could try to find the addresses of Reg and Pat's family members.
