Horsham
Drapers Assistant to John Browne in West Street.

He is buried in Wisborough Green Churchyard
Headstone says died 8th April 1862

(this headstone also makes reference to his brother Henry Chase who died in 1871 on voyage to New Zealand, who this thread started with!)

Out of interest do you have a link with the family?

Hi

My link is through Henry & John's sister, Emily Ann who married into the Greenfield family; her husband James was 2nd Cousin to my 3x great grandmother, Louisa Chatfield.

I can see John in 1861 now you've told me!! I guess I didn't find him with his surname spelt wrong; I must have not been using the Soundex that day!!

Many Thanks

Dave

Pleased you found him, I didnt have the reference to hand.

Dont know if you are near Wisborough Green or not, but the grave for John is next to those for his sisters Emma (died17 Nov 1858 age 25) and MAry (died 20 Jan 1865 age 18).
Also in Wisb. Green churchyard are their parents graves , John born 17 Sep 1800, died 15 MAy 1883, and Ann born 17 MAy 1812 died 9 April 1886.
The 3 spinster sisters of John and Henry Chase, that moved to Portsea, are buried together in Portsmouth cemetery:
ELiza died 9 August 1914, Caroline Elizabeth died 5 Jan 1922 and MAtilda Jane died 17 Dec 1937, if you are interested.

Thank you so much for that!

I live in Buckinghamshire, so not close to Wisborough Green, although there is a fair chance I will make a visit to Sussex one day, as I have discovered so many ancestors in that area.
