Vic Marriage or Death lookup Ellen MCMULLEN

Hi All,

Its been a while.

I am looking for more information on Ellen McMullen. I have her birth on 21 Apr 1871 in Maryborough, Victoria.
She is still listed on a birth certificate of her brother 18 years later as alive.
Her parents are George Charles McMullen and Annie Palmer.

Can anyone help please

There is one, to John Meek in 1884 Reg No 4707 but it says born at Portland.

Thanks - I have her birth certificate and it is definately Maryborough. Plus marriage in 1884 would make her 13. A bit young I think.

I see George (miner) and Annie MCMULLEN at Albert Parade, Maryborough in 1903.  There is another listing with the same details for a Gerorge MCMULLEN at the same address but am not sure if it is a duplicate entry for one man or two separate men. (Father and son?)
1909, 1914 has Annie and one George at Albert Parade. (1914 entry has George as a blacksmith)
1914 Mary Ann MCMULLEN also at that address.

I see what might  be her father's death?

Do you have this certificate?  Does it mention Ellen?

Can't see a death for Annie - her certificate should also mention Ellen.

Thanks anyway. I haven't got the death certificates for her parents Annie and George Charles. I have a photo of their grave stone, so that gave me most of the info I needed. I will probbaly need to get it.

For four generations there has been a George McMullen, so it can get pretty confusing.

George Charles McMullen and Annie McMullen
then next generation
George McMullen and Mary Ann McMullen
then next generation
George McMullen and Erene McMullen
and so forth......
makes it tough.

- also Ellens grandmother is Ellen McMullen also. I have her death certificate, and confirmed that that was the older Ellen.

So this lady is a bit of a mystery. Not on my direct ancestor line, but someone I want to know more about.

I know Ellen's birth is definitely Maryborough, there is no Ellen listed on the index as being born at Portland.
 the age is not really too young. Depending on what month she was born and what month the wedding was she could have been 14 and one of my G Grandmothers was married off at 14, in Victoria, late 1800's.

To really rule out the other Ellen we probably need to find out more about Ellen Meek, nee McMullens death. I had a bit of a look last night to find her death but couldn't.

John MEEK, farmer at Lake Bolac with Ellen,
Phillip Andrew MEEK, Phillip Melville MEEK and Walter MEEK also Lake Bolac - all labourers

1914 all at Lake Bolac, all surname MEEK
Ellen, John, Edward Thomas, and the two Phillips - all men now listed as farmers

1919 as 1914 plus John jnr, Arthur Albert, and sarah Jane

The last entry I see for Ellen is 1936 and there are a whole tribe of MEEKs in the same electoral district. Most listed as farmer (or Home duties)
Ellen now listed as farmer, Mininera.  Others at Mininera - William Henry, labourer, Clarence Leslie, Philip Melville and Jane Ellis.  Others at Lake Bolac.

Can't see a death for her but I don't have very good access to Victorian BMDs. There is one mention in The Argus 20 May 1937 that she had died - only one sentence and no further info.  The son Clarence is buried at Ararat - wonder if Ellen is also, wonder if there is mention of her parents

Took the plunge and purchased the McMullen - Meek marriage certificate. Its not her.

I also purchased her fathers death certificate. She is listed alive but by the name of Helen.
