it does state Newport, Shropshire on her marriage certificate???? I am so desperate to find her.  This side of the family has been a mystery for years.  Is a marriage certificate more reliable than a death certificate?  but as she is not listed in Shropshire she probably was born somewhere else.

My gggrandmother was born 21 June 1863 in Donnington Wood (Newport reg district) Shropshire and despite extensive searches by Telford Register Office they can find no trace of the birth. Her two older siblings and seven younger ones are all registered so there could be a problem with 1863 registrations.

Incidentally there is a marriage 25 Dec 1859 at St Peter, Liverpool for a Robert Wylie - single - father Moses Wylie and an Ann Adams- single - father Richard Adams. Do any of these names appear in later generations? If you could get someone to do a lookup of the Parish Register the ages and occupations could give a clue to help find them in the census.

I love a puzzle - what do you think to the following:

1871 RG10.2932/43/26  62 Pool Street, Wolverhampton, Staffs
Richard Adams head mar 65 labour in tin warehouse b. Outlands, Staffs
Elizabeth Adams wife 62 b. Ireland
Ann Wyllie dau 38 widow Tin cleaner b. Sutton, Staffs
Elizabeth Adams g'dau 15 scholar b. Wolverhampton
Mary A Wyllie dau 9 b. Wolverhampton - this is actually down as ditto
Robert Wyllie son 8 b. Newport, Shropshire

There is a birth for a Mary Ann Wiley in 1861 Sept qtr Wolverhampton 6b 389 - perhaps worth checking.

Good luck

hello Fairlane
the marriage 25 Dec 1859 at St Peter, Liverpool for a Robert Wylie - single - father Moses Wylie and an Ann Adams- single - father Richard Adams seems more likely to be them.  Annie Mary Wylie was born abt 1863.  Robert should have been born prior to 1845 at least.

Staffs Robert would be too young unless that  is my Annie's brother????

I am stuck. where do I go from here?  I don't know what to do?

could someone possibly do a search for me regarding Moses Wylie?  Familysearch.org is down for maintenance and I have no access to any other resources right now.

help...I am so confused.  Did people move about alot back in those days?  could her name have been registered as Mary Annie? is that why I am having a hard time finding her? could she have stayed temporarily in Newport, Shropshire and that is why it is listed on her marriage certificate?

It looks very much as though Mary Ann is your Annie Mary!

It's not unknown for names to be inverted, so Mary Ann(ie) could easily have become Annie Mary - lots of people are known by their middle names for various reasons.

The family must have moved to Newport when Mary was a baby if her brother was born there one year later, so if she remembered living there as a small child, she possibly assumed that she was born there too.  (Newport is about 20 miles from Wolverhampton.)

The birth registration Fairlane found in Wolverhampton in 1861 matches a baptism on the Wolverhampton archives site http://www.wolverhamptonhistory.org.uk

Mary Ann WYLLIE, daughter of Robert and Ann, baptised at St Paul, Wolverhampton on 4 August 1861.  (Father's occupation: boot closer; residence Pool St.)

thank you Rambler.  The search is on going. I believe Ann's parents to be Richard and Elizabeth Adams. I am still researching but I believe Robert's father to be Moses Wylie. He was possibly born in Scotland.  I will let you all know what I find out.
