John Clark
« on: Friday 07 January 11 16:59 GMT (UK) »

Hi,
I posted some years ago but thought i would try again as i just cannot find anymore details out and as i have got back into my family history again, thought i would try again to find out about my great grandfather.

There are only a few things i know about him they are,
1911 census:
John Clark   Age:29   (born 1882?) born: Sutton, Surrey ( Locomotive engine driver)
Marriage:
03 April 1904 in Mitcham, Surrey. Names on certificate are John Edward Clark to Frances Sarah Spice.
John's father is named as William.

I went to his grave a few years ago and it has his name as John James Clark, with a birth year of about 1884.

I have searched as much as i can but just cant find him on other census, birth records.  I would like to know more about that side of the family, as he never talked about any sisters/brothers or parents.

I would be so grateful for any information, or where i can look to find info out.

Many thanks

When did he die, Karen & are you sure you have the right marriage?

Hi,

I believe he died in 1967, aged 83, in fleet, hampshire.  Yes i am quite sure it is the right marriage, also the 1911 census has them down as married for 7 years.

Thanks

Morning Karen,
I've been looking for his death but with no luck.  Fleet is in the Aldershot RD.  Can you remember where he was buried, Fleet churchyard?  If he died outside of his burial place then we need to be looking a little wider as death regs. would be in the district of the death.
Anymore information from the marriage certificate?  His age, occupation & fathers occupation?  How old was Frances as there's a likely death reg. in Dorset in 1977.  It's odd that he should be John Edward Clark at his marriage & John James Clark on his tombstone...again, are you sure that was the right grave you saw?...

Hi Jane,

I have a few more details, which i hope can help.

His daughter has said before that she thinks he was born in or near Sutton, surrey.

Details from his marriage are :

John Edward Clark      Age 22  bachelor  father William Clark
Frances Sarah Spice   Age 23 spinster   father  Henry Clark

Married at Mitcham 03 April 1904 and both living at bygrove close, surrey

Remembering a few more things, my mum married at the beginning of April 1967, he wasn't there so he was in hospital or had died. we are thinking he died possibly in Farnham hospital, i found a record for a/m/j 1967 for John E Clark in surrey south western aged 83.
I am sure its the right grave as their son (killed in ww2) is remembered on their grave, and also there son-in-law was buried there too a few years back.

I hope this info can help.
Thanks
