SUNNOCK/S Boughton Monchelsea
« on: Friday 07 January 11 17:39 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to determine the parents of a Walter Sunnock or Sunnocks aged 8 on the 1851 and 18 on the 1861 Census.

In 1851 he is a lodger with a Sunnock family in Maidstone - Boughton Monchelsea

Sunnock  William  32 Head Agricultural Laborer Marden, Kent  Church Street, Boughton Monchelsea, Kent
Sunnock  Susannah  47 Wife  Boughton Monchelsea, Kent  Church Street, Boughton Monchelsea, Kent
Sunnock  Walter  6 Son At Home Boughton Monchelsea, Kent  Church Street, Boughton Monchelsea, Kent
-  Sunnock 6Days Son  Boughton Monchelsea, Kent  Church Street, Boughton Monchelsea, Kent
Sunnock  Walter  8 Lodger Scholar Boughton Monchelsea, Kent  Church Street, Boughton Monchelsea, Kent    Cheesman  Elizabeth  69 Servant Servant Yalding, Kent  Church Street, Boughton Monchelsea, Kent

By 1861 he is with a family I am researching and recorded as GRANDSON to head of the Household Sarah Baker

Baker  Sarah  74 Head Laundress Boughton Monchelsea, Kent  Bower Place, Maidstone, Kent
Baker  Sarah  35 Daughter  Manchester, Kent  Bower Place, Maidstone, Kent
Sunnock  Walter  18 Grand Son Apprentice Boughton Monchelsea, Kent  Bower Place, Maidstone, Kent
Ring  James  17 Grand Son Servant Maidstone, Kent  Bower Place, Maidstone, Kent
Baker  John  15 Grand Son Servant Maidstone, Kent  Bower Place, Maidstone, Kent
Noakes  Mary  75 Lodger  Boughton Monchelsea, Kent  Bower Place, Maidstone, Kent

I only have three children for Sarah Baker.
Marry Jane who married Mark Ring and died 1846
Sarah Harriett 1824 who never married and a James Baker c.1825 I have nothing on.

Are their any baptisms available online for Boughton Monchelsea, not sure how else to find his aprents without the certifiacte.

Freebmd has a Walter SUNNUCK birth in Maidstone RD but it's 1845 - not 1843.  No other of that name with an 1845 birthyear on the 1851 and no death shown between 1845-1851

EDIT - just realised that will be the Walter who was the son of William & Susannah

Walter? I have his father as Richard, and I cannot find Walter after the 1861 Census to know if he married. I have to be careful as there is another Walter born 1846, mine being born c.1843.

Its the Baker line I am interested you see, and as he is listed as Grandson of Sarah I wonder which child of hers married a Sunnock as only have three accounted for children for Sarah so far.

Ah, do you have the 1851 census for Sarah & John BAKER in Boxley Road, Maidstone?  If not, I can post details (there is a niece Esther COOMBER age 19? born Norfolk) ???

Richard SUNNOCK married Ann COMBER (parents of Walter 1843?) at Chart Sutton 1829 http://www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages/index.php

Oh dear, plot thickens.

I have Sarah on the 1851 Thank you, and didnt make the connection with Richard's wife and the niece Esther.

Sarah Baker 1785-1870 born Boughton Monchelsea was named BRIGSLEY when she married John BAKER 1807 in Maidstone. The transcription doesnt say whether she was previously married.

The first child I have for them in 1819! So 12 years gap from marriage to daughter Mary Jane 1819.
