Naturalization route to Canada from Russian Poland in 1900?
« on: Friday 07 January 11 18:18 GMT (UK) »
What shipping ports were used by people who naturalized from Russian Poland to Canada in circa 1900?

My current theory is that my relative traveled by horse and buggy from Poland to Hamburg in Germany,
and then sailed to Canada from there.

I'm wondering about other common departure points for immigrants from Poland besides Hamburg?

Thanks for any thoughts.

I seem to remember that Bremen was another port used by emigrants from the Pale.  I believe, too, that the journey to America/Canada was usually broken in England.  The travellers came first to an English port (on a boat that did the North Sea run) & then transferred to a ship that made the longer Atlantic voyage.

Thanks for the tips.

I haven't found my ancestor on a shipping list yet, so it helps to know what some
probable ports of departure were during the early 1900's for Poland immigrants.
